Thailand’s Southern Economic Corridor

Southern Economic Corridor

The SEC is the handsome brother of the EEC which started some months ago. The Southern Economic Corridor development scheme includes a high-speed rail network, a double-track rail system, road construction and an upgrade of Ranong port. According to a recent report in the Bangkok Post, the bid for the high-speed track from Bangkok-Hua Hin-Chumphon-Surat Thani will start this year. Chumphon could be developed as a center for fruit distribution, while Surat Thani is envisioned as a bioeconomy center. Ranong port will be upgraded to facilitate shipments to India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The Thai Riviera aka. Royal Coast project will be part of the SEC.
